What's in it
Small chopped pieces of Seagreens® native wild Wrack seaweed Pelvetia canaliculata, whose composition and health benefits Seagreens has studied and documented for over two decades.
Pelvetia is unusual, for half the time growing out of the water, hence its common name Channel Wrack - it holds sea water inside its holdfast at low tide. Nothing added or extracted.
In our view this is the seaweed, even for infants and children, with an exceptional balance of all the micronutrients. Non-allergenic. Safe in permanent daily use.
Per gram it has lower iodine at around 200µg (66µg uptake), higher essential fatty acids with an ideal 3:1 ratio between Omega 6 and 3, good EPA and DHA in the Omega 3 (though additional DHA might be advised in ADHD), and 2,783µg of Omega 9 for immunity, insulin resistance, cardiovascular health, and stress.
To cap it all, it provides an almost equal amount of ALA (Alpha-linolenic acid 269.6µg) and EPA (Eicosapentenoic acid 269.82µg). It also has a mild taste. As many children have shown, even before they can speak, it can be eaten just as it is! Beat that.
What it does
Pelvetia has an unusual composition. Omega fatty acids are 3 times higher than our other native species, with an ideal ratio that makes it good brain food; low in iodine so it's ideal even for children; an effective prebiotic ideal for digestion; and rich in antioxidants for intestinal cleansing and blood circulation. With comprehensive minerals and trace elements and a little of every nutrient group, it safely fills all the gaps in a daily diet.
How to use
In almost any food, from breakfast muesli to a stir fry, pasta topping to vegetable salad, Pelvetia has a mild flavour so these pieces can be eaten as they are, slightly chewy, or left in cold water for a few minutes to soften.
It also makes a lovely Condiment! An easy way to eat seaweed is as a healthy replacement for salt. Grind Seagreens® Pelvetia Pieces in a standard salt or pepper grinder straight onto food.
Half a jar (25 grams) can be left for an hour in a litre jug of cold water, with squeezed quartered lemon, grated ginger roots and 4 teaspoons or T-bags of green tea, then strained out into a new jug to drink or keep in a frig for up to 3 weeks - a deliciously clean, very high antioxidant drink with a serious nutrient profile! It can be sweetened if required with a little pure apple or grape juice.
Provenance
British Isles and Nordic region. The best seaweed species are found in different locations. Seagreens has developed 5 food certified remote harvesting locations and production facilities in England, Iceland, Ireland, Norway and Scotland.
