What is the difference between Iodine+ Capsules and Food Capsules?

Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules are a single seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum), whereas Seagreens® Food Capsules are a blend of three seaweeds (Ascophyllum nodosum, Pelvetia canaliculata, and Fucus spiralis).

Seagreens® Food Capsules are blended specifically to have an exceptionally broad nutritional profile without excessive iodine content. This means that more can be taken where needed to tackle specific health conditions, or undergo a detoxifcation programme.

Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules are intended for people who's primary reason for taking them is to ensure an adequate iodine intake, perhaps because of a sluggish thyroid or because they have a vegan diet.

Seagreens® Food Capsules would normally be the first choice for most people, due to their blend giving a wider nutrient profile, whereas Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules are an inexpensive way to boost iodine levels. Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules do still have an excellent nutritional profile though.

Dosage. How much should I take, and when?

Adults

2 capsules per day

Ideally 1 in the morning and one in the evening with food.

This dosage should be taken on a permanent daily basis for maximum benefit.

4 capsules per day may be taken where the subject:

  • Has regular physical exertion
  • Is pregnant or breast feeding
  • Recuperating from illness
  • Health or immunity is exceptionally compromised
  • Specific treatment is being given

This dosage should only be taken for short periods of time.

6 capsules per day may be taken where the subject:

  • Is undergoing heavy metals and radiation detoxification

This dosage should be taken for at least 8 weeks, reducing to 2-3 capsules per day for up to 24 months.

The dosage in pre-and post-operative dental amalgam extraction was agreed in 2002 with Dr J. Levenson, President of the British Society for Mercury-Free Dentistry.

Children (Under 10)

1 capsule in the morning with food

Infants (from 6 months to 4 years)

The contents of half of one capsule stirred into food per day

“...best consumed before and/or during meals”  - G. Michanek, University of Göteborg, Sweden.

Generally experience shows that prolonged daily use rather than higher daily intake is the key to efficacy. It also indicates that the relationship and balance between the nutrients in Seagreens®, and their entirely natural quality, may explain their efficacy rather than the actual amount of each that is present.

In all cases, experience shows that although debility may be addressed within weeks, genuine change and improvement accrues from long term use, and usually becomes very apparent to the subject from between 6 and 12 months when underlying causes rather than symptoms begin to be addressed and optimum health can be reached.

I’ve been advised to take “kelp tablets”, can I take Seagreens® instead?

Kelps are large seaweeds belonging to the brown algae (Phaeophyceae) group in the order Laminariales.

Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules are 100% Ascophyllum seaweed (a Kelp) which is hand-harvested and air dried (not heat treated) so contains all the nutrients you receive from unaldulterated human-food quality Kelp.

Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules have an outstanding proportionate balance of all the micronutrients required for iodine metabolism.

Compare this to mass market "kelp tablets" which are often by-products of industrial deep water dredging and are boiled before being processed and manufactured into tablets together with various fillers and binders.

Are Seagreens® good for children?

Yes. Seagreens® are safe and beneficial for children of all ages.

See Dosage.

From what age can you start to take Seagreens®?

The earlier you start the more benefit you will receive.  A lactating mother taking Seagreens® would be passing on the unique benefits of seaweed to her baby through her breast milk.  Children from the age of 6 months can be given seaweed on their food, through puberty to adulthood.  It is advisable for all ages young and old.  Please see Dosage below.

Yes, Seagreens® can be included in the daily diet before, during and after pregnancy as an ideal foundational food - safe to use while breast-feeding - providing a complete and balanced nutrient profile including the micronutrients like folic acid and selenium which are often taken as synthetic or formulated supplements.

Can I take Seagreens® with other medication?

Can I use Seagreens® as part of a detox plan?

Seagreens® can help as part of a detox plan but should not be substituted for meals.  Seaweed assists with removing toxins from your body that have been absorbed over time through your food and the environment.  It binds harmful chemicals such as heavy metals and pollutants so that they can’t be reabsorbed and escorts them out of the body.

Can I take Seagreens® if I have an under active thyroid?

Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function.

Seagreens® are an excellent source of natural, stable, chelated iodine together with the full balance of complementary microminerals like selenium and other nutrients required for its metabolism.

Within the thyroid, iodine combines with other nutrients to produce triiodinine (T3 - 3 atoms of iodine and thryoxine (T4 - 4 atoms of iodine).

Can I take Seagreens® if I have an over active thyroid?

Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function.

Seagreens® seaweed is suitable for over active thyroid. Although iodine is often thought to be the most important factor, equally the balance of micronutrients involved in the delicate metabolic processes which feed the thyroid is critical.

These nutrients are iodine, selenium, tyrosine, zinc, copper, vitamins A, B2, B3, B6 and C – all of which are present in an ideal natural balance of Seagreens®.
