Seagreens® Organic Mineral Salt
An ideal mineral balanced alternative to table salt.
Use wherever salt is used, significantly broaden the nutritional profile of your food.
Seagreens® Organic Mineral Salt contains 50% Cornish Sea Salt and 50% Seagreens® classic ready-milled grains of wild Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed.
It can be used in everything from soups to risottos – or wherever salt is used – and sprinkled onto almost any raw or cooked food.
Twice the Flavour, Half the Salt!
The Mineral Salt is a unique combination of Organic seaweed from Seagreens’ sustainable harvesting in the Scottish Outer Hebrides and Soil Association certified sea salt from the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, England.
This 50/50 mix of Ascophyllum nodosum wrack seaweed and unrefined salt provides a healthy condiment option - no other natural food has a complete balance of minerals, trace elements and micronutrients.
Consumers responded enthusiastically to its introduction at food and health shows in the last quarter of 2010: “lovely flavour”; “just as good as salt & pepper”; “fantastic value”.
The Hebridean Seagreens factory won the 2010 Crown Estate Marine Enterprise Award and Cornish Sea Salt won a Gold Food Award. Replacing sodium chloride in manufactured foods has been top of Seagreens research agenda since 2007.
20% of their ingredient sales supports The Seaweed Health Foundation set up 2009 with health food and academic partners. Of salt reduction with Seagreens, researcher Dr Andrew Fairclough said: "Factor in the other health benefits of seaweed and this could have a massive effect on the food industry, and impact the health of millions".
Salt Harvesting
Cornish Sea Salt, located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Scientific Interest, is the only British salt producer returning sea water back to the ocean as sea water - not distilled, which can adversely affect local salinity.
The white, flaky salt crystals are produced in a Soil Association approved state-of-the-art, eco-friendly harvesting facility using low energy output, rainwater collection, laminated timbers and a marmolium-clad interior with inherent antiseptic qualities (limestone).
Fresh sea water (Grade A, the highest purity standard) is pumped some 8 metres to a 3-stage bespoke filtration process and heat evaporation to concentrate the salt. The salt crystals are harvested and the water, less only 0.5% salt, trickles back to the sea at ambient temperature, through a natural fault in the rock face.

Salt Considerations
The high sugar content of numerous foods is a concern shared by many consumers. Equally hazardous is the high salt content of the ready made foods we buy, in addition to the salt we use at home in condiments and cooking.
There is no doubt that our bodies need sodium to function. Sodium helps to carry nutrients into our cells and is the main component of the body’s extracellular fluids. It also helps to regulate blood pressure. But the amount we really need is far smaller than the average amount consumed.
Genetically our bodies are designed to store extra salt, combine this with excessive salt consumption and we have the contributory factors that produce high blood pressure, strokes and cardiovascular disease, to kidney stones, stomach cancer, osteoporosis and even cataracts. However the silver lining appears when a consistent reduction of salt intake successfully lowers blood pressure within just a few weeks.
If we use less salt at the table and in cooking we can reduce our intake by at least a third. But by far the biggest problem is reducing salt in almost all of the manufactured food products we buy over which we have no direct control. Such widespread use of salt has induced ‘the salt habit’ whereby the prospect of bland and tasteless food can be an obstacle to achieving a healthier lifestyle.
Research & Nutritional Information
Following Seagreens® ground-breaking original research in 2007-2009, sponsored by the British Government, this highly nutritious wild ocean vegetable will not only replace up to 50% of the salt in manufactured foods, but can be used at home as well.
Seagreens® Organic Mineral Salt also enhances the nutritional value of our food, and brings out it's flavour.
